shedloads less settings

The future of this project but not in a "I want a pony" sort of way. This is all about everything meta about Quam Plures. The general direction, the support tools, stuff like that.

shedloads less settings

Postby EdB » Mon May 27, 2013 2:35 pm

I've decided to do away with shedloads of user settings that only a geek could love. number of blogs before a select box, number of results per page in admin, the admin template in use, "focus on first input" which I never even bothered turning on, the bozo validator, and the whole idea of an icon legend are gone in my latest version.

My thinking is two-fold. First, they're really geeky. All they really do is load up the user's profile page with admin-side stuff when the profile really should be about the user - and the user generally doesn't give a damn about the admin side of their participation in a website. Second, assuming I move towards plugin user settings get stored in the user settings table it'll be of great value to remove from that table as much "unessential stuff" as possible.

:) ?

Sounds good to me. Streamlining interfaces are always a good thing.
