Permission Error?

Can you copy/paste the error message, or do a screenshot that shows what is wrong? If not maybe you've got a "you can sense it" bug.

Permission Error?

Postby edoc7 » Tue Apr 17, 2012 3:30 pm

We are suddenly seeing a Permission Error.

This is happening in Preview and Publish and on two different
accounts, both of which have been working fine.

I have E-mailed the server folks to ask if they changed any permission settings.

Has anyone seen this before and could it be caused from inside QP?

Forbidden

You don't have permission to access /qp_files/quam-plures/blog5.php on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Am I right in thinking this is not a QP error that you are seeing. It doesn't look like it is as it has the Apache bit at the bottom.

It looks like a server permissions thing to me

I just checked a different account on the same server and it's also showing the same permissions error.

I wanted to be sure to rule-out anything in QP I might have done to cause the problem.

I've contacted the server people.

Thanks! :-)

When you say 'account' you are not talking about a qp account are you (as in a user on qp) ?

No, I meant URL/account on the server; e.g. bibleseven.com or nevils-station.com

OK, the problem has mostly cleared up, except ...

The problem is now that one may manually enter a title and text
into a blog and it will save, preview, and publish OK but if text
from an E-mail is pasted into the body it will not.

Might there be some sort of code/formatting in the text of an E-mail
that could trigger a problem that manually entered code would not?

Could you paste the error that is generated?

I'm not sure what you meant by "but if text from an E-mail is pasted", do you mean posting by email? Or copy-pasting the email?

If the latter, there shouldn't be any code 'copied' unless your email client also forces you to copy HTML codes beyond what you are seeing. In any case, you can go to Admin > Users and click on each group to see the group permissions. But if it still doesn't solve the new error, a copy-paste of the said error or a screenshot will greatly help.

I tried to cut and paste text from the text body of an E-mail into Leafpad (an editor that generally removes spurious formatting, etc).

It failed with the same error as a direct cut and paste.

Here's the error:

Check with your hosts to see if they have made changes to the .htaccess file, or if you have made changes to it. I got permission errors with QP due to settings in my .htaccess. The same settings had no affect with that other app so I am not sure why QP was affected and that other app was not. Once I removed the entries from the .htaccess file the permission errors went away. I would like to know why QP was affected and the other app was not because the entries were there to prevent spammers.
